If using with a canvas or vinyl photo background that has wood mounting you will not need the crossbar, however if you are using with a cloth backdrop that has a pole pocket, simply slip the crossbar through the sewn pocket and raise the stands. You may prefer to clamp it to the crossbar which is also an option!
