Using a backdrop stand with a canvas or vinyl background that has wood mounting, you will not need the crossbar; however if you are using a cloth backdrop that has a pole pocket, simply slip the crossbar through the sewn pocket and raise the backdrop stands. You may prefer to clamp it to the crossbar which is also an option.
